Tree Tomatoes are easily grown from seed and make excellent indoor or conservatory plants. |
The Tree Tomato, also known as Tamarillo, is a exotic large shrub native to Peru. The trees grow ten to twelve feet in height and may be single or multiple stemmed depending on how they are trained. The large, rather oval leaves may be six to twelve inches long. Small, pinkish fragrant flowers appear in the spring and the fruits mature during the fall and following winter. Tamarillos resemble the tomato in appearance and taste somewhat sweeter. Like tomatoes, they can be eaten as a vegetable and used in sauces, soups or other ways. They can also be made into jams and jellies. This and many more facts, growing information, recipes, ... can be found on our site. |
